Daily Balance: There’s no business like shoe business

Daily Reads: 1 CHRONICLES 11:1-12:18 | ACTS 28:1-31 | PSALM 9:1-12 | PROVERBS 19:1-3

Breaking Prayer: American Embassy Attacked in Syria: CBS news reports that there is damage to the building with no word to injuries. We pray for the situation and that there will be a level of protection on those who are working in Syria, and for the protesters themselves.

Does Correction include Tax Hikes? Pray that cool heads prevail as talks continue during the budget that increasingly is a line between political parties. Yes correction hurts, but it leads to challenge, and then when the challenges are addressed people may be open to change. Lord give our political leaders strength and courage at this time.

First Chronicles 11:1

1 All Israel came together to David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood. 2 In the past, even while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the LORD your God said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’”

Pray for : Media Leader: writer Stan Lee who created comic characters Spider-Man, X-Men, etc.& is the editor  of Virgin Comics. Our prayer is also for actor Ashton Kutcher as he is a cultural influencer to many. We lift these people up and thank Master Media for their everyday listing.

Addictions and Prayer

There has been a lot of talk about rehab for addiction. This is the quote of the day from the NY Times:“It’s not surprising to us now that when you stop the treatment, people relapse. It doesn’t mean that the treatment doesn’t work, it just means that you need to continue treatment.” DR. DANIEL ALFORD, on the limits of brief rehabilitation programs in treating addiction. Prayer: How many times are we asked to forgive?

New Shoes: There’s no business like shoe business

NY Times: “IF sex sells, then nudity cannot be far behind. At least that is what Zappos, the online retailer, hopes with its new advertising campaign featuring naked models doing everyday things like jogging, hailing a cab and playing Frisbee in public.” Please pray that that a campaign that blurs the lines between decency and selling shoes would fail. That Zappos management might see the damage caused in judgement. Indeed sex sells- but can shoes sell sex? When someone misleads our youth with this kind of immorality play, we as believers and followers of Jesus Christ must speak out for the sake of the company and the sake of our kids, and the sake of the gospel. Father use us in speaking truth into media.

Acts 28:17-21

17 Three days later he called together the local Jewish leaders. When they had assembled, Paul said to them: “My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans. 18 They examined me and wanted to release me, because I was not guilty of any crime deserving death. 19 The Jews objected, so I was compelled to make an appeal to Caesar. I certainly did not intend to bring any charge against my own people. 20For this reason I have asked to see you and talk with you. It is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.”

 21 They replied, “We have not received any letters from Judea concerning you, and none of our people who have come from there has reported or said anything bad about you. 22 But we want to hear what your views are, for we know that people everywhere are talking against this sect.”

How do we pray this verse in the daily balance of our lives. We have people willing to hear the views, but they are not Paul’s point of view, they are the “hope of Israel.” The hope of Israel is the Gospel of Christ. When we pray publically we are not expressing our will but God’s will. We are not expressing our point of view but we are praying that we might read the headlines from God’s POV.

Psalm 9:1

1 I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart;
   I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you;
   I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

Proverbs 19

 1 Better the poor whose walk is blameless
   than a fool whose lips are perverse.

 2 Desire without knowledge is not good—
   how much more will hasty feet miss the way!

 3 A person’s own folly leads to their ruin,
   yet their heart rages against the LORD.

More Shoe Business

“Had I known the full extent of Focus on the Family’s beliefs, I would not have accepted the invitation to speak at their event. It was an oversight on my part and the company’s part and one we regret. In the last 18 months we have presented at over 70 different engagements and we do our best to make sure we choose our engagements wisely, on this one we chose poorly.” TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie

Pray for Tom’s Shoes and it’s founder Blake Mycoskie.

Clean Hotels Need Clean Media for Reads,Listens and Views

The proverb says that the “Lord hates inaccurate scales.” For a media person that makes me sit up and notice, and recount! Is this a new era of measurement? I hope so. With all of our technological and social media advances I agree with my friends at Ibiquity who still tell me that “Content is king.” It comes down to what people are reading; who they are listening to, and what and when they are viewing.

Clean Hotels

 I have been in conversations with the people who started a website called Clean Hotels. It has nothing to do with bed bugs or linen, or hanging your dirty laundry. It does however have to do with what one puts in one’s mind. The tragedy and the divorce rate of the travelling spouse is linked to what is available on the little screen in any given territory or city that people travel. The idea of CleanHotels.com is valuable to marriage, family and to society and culture as a whole. My thought is that there are a few problems that exist that are based on the ideas of parenting. Clean Hotels has succeeded in a major breakthrough by eliminating the culprit. The next obstacle however is what every mom and dad knows, ‘when you take something away what do you replace it with?’

Clean Media- Good stuff available when I want it

 This gets back to the original premise of this article. When it breaks down (in terms of numbers) to what we are reading, what we are listening to, and what we are viewing, the alternatives are vast. I read 4 international newspapers, digital books, classic movies, a baseball game and listen to Focus on the Family, All Things Considered and other things at home and as I travel. I can watch the stream from the church I attend, and I can get any type of music that I want to listen to on a number of Pandora type sites. Even my phone calls are made on a laptop through Skype and Connect me Voice as my contacts are able to follow me from my office phone.

Accountable and Countable

 Yes my lap top is the place to be held accountable, a work space and to be able to be counted on by my readers, my listeners and my viewers at any given time. “Content is King” and there is more content and accountability found on my laptop than there is in a hotel room in most major cities. Yet there is a challenge I think we can help with–integrating our reading, listening and viewing habits.

 Dashboard and Washboard

 I dream of the best way that I could view a dashboard and customize my settings- I mean really customize them. What if I had the One Year Bible online right next to the headlines from the NY Times? What if all my assignments and meetings were found in site, with a clock and a clock with all the time zones, a directory and a list of who I needed to contact today?  What if my mission was in front of me, my goals and objectives, and my exercise and nutrition log? If my laptop could be media, entertainment, news and schedule and then top it off with what I am doing at home, at work, at church and on the road, then I could give an honest measurement of where I’ve been, what I’m doing now, and where I’m going. That’s exactly where we all need to be.
