Prayer for nothing to lose

Strong men and wrong friends

it depends on who you talk to

Straw men- have raw friends

who do you choose?

When there’s nothing to lose…

Prayer is this way. When we have nothing to lose we tend to pray more. I had a friend who use to say that when “your back was to a wall you have nothing to lose.” I use to think that sounded threatening but to me it begs a question, why when all else fails do we turn to God? Humanity cries out only when it has to and otherwise we make prayer a practice only when we have to. What if we just prayed whether we had something to say or not? “Hi God, things are going okay but I really need your direction and your opinion, what do you think are they really going okay? Am I doing your will? Does it matter?

1. In a box – out of box- your thoughts have been found in a crude response

In a verse- heard in a song,

from a scrimmage where no one keeps score!

Sounds like a creative conquest that no one does keep score? We are faced with so many competitive challenges that we tend to bolster ourselves up with these illusions that we don’t need God, we need self-esteem. Not keeping score might help, or not. What if our prayer was in the nature of, “My way is like hitting a brick wall that I can’t breakthrough, so show me your way God. How could my victory reflect your life in me, instead of a trophy at the end of the day?”

CHORUS:

Strong men and wrong friends

it depends on who you talk to

Straw men- have raw friends

who do you choose?

When there’s nothing to lose…

Straw men- have raw friends

whose intent it is to prove,

you’ve got nothing to lose…

Strong men (and women) talk with God at all times. Constant conversation with God works. Don’t worry about bothering Him, He can handle it. While He has plenty to do, He multitasks an entire universe. But also choose your friends- that is the point of the chorus. Friendship Fellowship helps when traveling in this world.

Verse:

In the once, of once upon

healing curses, writing wrongs

Take a look- Popeye needs his spinach

and if He’s in it- He might crave more

That was just a fun verse to write. Popeye needs spinach to fight the good fight. I think God is a big fan of Popeye. He likes the way he talks and fights for the right things. He also is an advocate for healthy eating.

CHORUS:

Strong men and wrong friends

it depends on who you talk to

Straw men- have raw friends

who do you choose?

When there’s nothing to lose…

Straw men- have raw friends

whose intent it is to prove,

you’ve got nothing to lose…

Bridge: We were lost in space,

Losing weight- I’m down a pound, but not down and out.

Words of distaste- that ain’t tomato paste-

there’s a bad taste that leaves us in doubt.

Poetic prayer helps. It is challenging and it is good for the brain. Inner rhymes can help in memorizing God’s word and help you ping-pong the right and left brain. There is an integral part of prayer. We might not remember a prayer request but the inner and outer rhyme help us to spark and surprise Broca.

Verse:

So I put on my socks- I’ve got them on

Fund’s dispersed but amount is wrong

Too many cooks, burn my omelet

But brother I’m on it- I’m at the store.

CHORUS:

Strong men and wrong friends

it depends on who you talk to

Straw men- have raw friends

who do you choose?

When there’s nothing to lose…

Straw men- have raw friends

whose intent it is to prove,

you’ve got nothing to lose…
