Truth in Advertising

Truth in Advertising

DENVER/COS – Just a few years ago we hit upon something that we didn’t really expect. We found that by placing radio commercials on streams of the top Clear Channel stations we could save our clients thousands of dollars by buying up inventory that was unsold; and reach more people than streams ever did before. This happens in New York; Detroit; Los Angeles; DC; Denver and Miami; Dallas and Seattle. By using this strategy our clients realized that the results of those campaigns had long lasting results and at 10 cents on the dollar. What’s even more surprising is that we developed a subscription service; added an online store and a ministry resource center that was part consumer review and a store that we co-op syndication dollars through small retainer fees versus commissions on product sold from the resource center. To find out how this works please call Richard Beattie 720.295.7713 or e-mail Go Spot Go is part of the new Truth Experience where we stream the next wave of Teach-Talk programs.

Boulder atheists have a new place to start

What good is thinking more if the thoughts obstruct the view?
When you’re keeping score to what’s in store-
thinking has nothing on what you’re going through

and if what you think is who you are
You could get stuck in the mire
time to get out of your car- Brother
Think before you pray- Think out loud (repeat)

BT Springs 1/27/12

This is a song lyric that is an answer to the billboard that the Boulder Atheists have put up around Colorado which reads, “God is an imaginary friend, choose reality it will be better for all of us.” On Friday’s we like to get some talk back going when we are examining prayer and this seems to be a hot topic on people’s mind. The interesting thing that the Boulder Atheists have put out there is that they are willing to concede that it’s okay to talk to Imaginary friends, and maybe that’s where we start. If they tried to talk to an imaginary friend and it solves some of their problems, the more they actually did that and saw the results, wouldn’t you think they would think deeper?

Think before you pray- think out loud.

Isolation is a terrible thing and being in media for a long time I think that the more willing you share your ideas, prayers and dreams out loud in a culture of relativists, who accept your thoughts and prayers openly (there are no bad ideas in a brainstorm). The billboard cleverly uses advertising to cry for help. Psychologically what the Boulder atheists are doing is asking for prayer and proof. They want to know that when they pray to God that they are not praying to an “imaginary friend” so I have a solution. Join a church that prays out loud with one another.

Verse 2
When the creative right and the concrete left come together imagine the consequence. When the salt and light meets the folks on the fence- I smell beginnings of influence- so

and if what you think is who you are
You could get stuck in the mire
time to get out of your car- Brother
Think before you pray- Think out loud (repeat)

Bridge: So could we occupy the brains of the suits on Wall Street
and sing the strains of progress in the Belt Way-

Can we do what we say- when the thoughts are on our lips,
can we move the chains of glory beyond the hypocrites!

So I pray that the Boulder atheists have reached a deeper understanding and I hope and pray that they can move beyond their billboard and start getting involved in thinking out loud. The invitation to join others in conversation and to bring up their issues and concerns with people who are believers in God are not imaginary- they are real. They can help you find the answers in reality. Many are followers of Jesus Christ who in reality claimed to be not only the Son of God but when you look at Him you are seeing God and then there is the reality of the Holy Spirit inside many of those believers and followers- you want to tap into reality? You want to get unstuck? Come together, think deeper, have a brainstorm with your local church- and think before you pray.

How it all plays out on Church Street

Denver: Everyone is talking about how “it plays out on Wall Street, or Main Street,” but the question is “What does it mean to the people who live and work on Church Street?” Starting in November The Evangelical Examiner will start a series of articles on how everything from coffee to theater, the economy and faith, business and politics will start with that thesis. Here is a preview:

After further review- the man prays

Everyone from Atlantic to Pacific is talking about Tebow, the latest quarterback for the Denver Broncos. When he hit his knees after the comeback victory against the Dolphins, he put his fist to his head and thus began not so much a controversy, but a viral infection of a collage of pictures, showing people in funny hats, construction workers and even little kids in their pajamas: Tebowing. Here at the examiner we are not offended by people taking pictures of people imitating Tebow’s prayer stance, but as  author Gabe Lyons tells his readers in The Next Christian, “don’t be offended, be provoked.” That’s the point. This week we are tebowing a lot, and our prayer is that Tebow starts hot right out of the tunnel against the surprising Detroit Lions. Football writers and odds makers don’t think that the “Broncos have a Tebowing chance to beat the Lions,” however God might think otherwise.

Really good coffee with a mission

Mission Coffee Roasters and Church Coffee is now operating in Colorado. The former Baltimore based gourmet coffee roaster has moved their beans out west and that is a good thing. Brett Bixler the founder of this roaster packed his family, a small roaster, mountain bikes, furniture and are ready to roll out the evangelical incubator that will launch  a digital publisher, media form and helping with Friendship Fellowship in Denver and Colorado Springs. If you want to know more about Mission Coffee or know of a church that can use a coffee house and great coffee, call them  888-673-4069.

Daily Balance: There’s no business like shoe business

Daily Reads: 1 CHRONICLES 11:1-12:18 | ACTS 28:1-31 | PSALM 9:1-12 | PROVERBS 19:1-3

Breaking Prayer: American Embassy Attacked in Syria: CBS news reports that there is damage to the building with no word to injuries. We pray for the situation and that there will be a level of protection on those who are working in Syria, and for the protesters themselves.

Does Correction include Tax Hikes? Pray that cool heads prevail as talks continue during the budget that increasingly is a line between political parties. Yes correction hurts, but it leads to challenge, and then when the challenges are addressed people may be open to change. Lord give our political leaders strength and courage at this time.

First Chronicles 11:1

1 All Israel came together to David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood. 2 In the past, even while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the LORD your God said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’”

Pray for : Media Leader: writer Stan Lee who created comic characters Spider-Man, X-Men, etc.& is the editor  of Virgin Comics. Our prayer is also for actor Ashton Kutcher as he is a cultural influencer to many. We lift these people up and thank Master Media for their everyday listing.

Addictions and Prayer

There has been a lot of talk about rehab for addiction. This is the quote of the day from the NY Times:“It’s not surprising to us now that when you stop the treatment, people relapse. It doesn’t mean that the treatment doesn’t work, it just means that you need to continue treatment.” DR. DANIEL ALFORD, on the limits of brief rehabilitation programs in treating addiction. Prayer: How many times are we asked to forgive?

New Shoes: There’s no business like shoe business

NY Times: “IF sex sells, then nudity cannot be far behind. At least that is what Zappos, the online retailer, hopes with its new advertising campaign featuring naked models doing everyday things like jogging, hailing a cab and playing Frisbee in public.” Please pray that that a campaign that blurs the lines between decency and selling shoes would fail. That Zappos management might see the damage caused in judgement. Indeed sex sells- but can shoes sell sex? When someone misleads our youth with this kind of immorality play, we as believers and followers of Jesus Christ must speak out for the sake of the company and the sake of our kids, and the sake of the gospel. Father use us in speaking truth into media.

Acts 28:17-21

17 Three days later he called together the local Jewish leaders. When they had assembled, Paul said to them: “My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans. 18 They examined me and wanted to release me, because I was not guilty of any crime deserving death. 19 The Jews objected, so I was compelled to make an appeal to Caesar. I certainly did not intend to bring any charge against my own people. 20For this reason I have asked to see you and talk with you. It is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.”

21 They replied, “We have not received any letters from Judea concerning you, and none of our people who have come from there has reported or said anything bad about you. 22 But we want to hear what your views are, for we know that people everywhere are talking against this sect.”

How do we pray this verse in the daily balance of our lives. We have people willing to hear the views, but they are not Paul’s point of view, they are the “hope of Israel.” The hope of Israel is the Gospel of Christ. When we pray publically we are not expressing our will but God’s will. We are not expressing our point of view but we are praying that we might read the headlines from God’s POV.

Psalm 9:1

1 I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you;
I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

Proverbs 19

1 Better the poor whose walk is blameless
than a fool whose lips are perverse.

2 Desire without knowledge is not good—
how much more will hasty feet miss the way!

3 A person’s own folly leads to their ruin,
yet their heart rages against the LORD.

More Shoe Business

“Had I known the full extent of Focus on the Family’s beliefs, I would not have accepted the invitation to speak at their event. It was an oversight on my part and the company’s part and one we regret. In the last 18 months we have presented at over 70 different engagements and we do our best to make sure we choose our engagements wisely, on this one we chose poorly.” TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie
