DENVER/COS – Just a few years ago we hit upon something that we didn’t really expect. We found that by placing radio commercials on streams of the top Clear Channel stations we could save our clients thousands of dollars by buying up inventory that was unsold; and reach more people than streams ever did before.This happens in New York; Detroit; Los Angeles; DC; Denver and Miami; Dallas and Seattle. By using this strategy our clients realized that the results of those campaigns had long lasting results and at 10 cents on the dollar. What’s even more surprising is that we developed a subscription service; added an online store and a ministry resource center that was part consumer review and a store that we co-op syndication dollars through small retainer fees versus commissions on product sold from the resource center. The fundraising question

I have known many a college president that worked in a raising funds and awareness as his or her chief responsibility and it is a noble cause. As a church planter and pastor who is also a media and communications leader, raising funds should be the easiest part of my job and integrated in my ministry, leadership and communications business and mission plan and that’s what this column is about today.

Church Coffee and what else?
My friend Ron Maxwell has a great online radio station with Christian Classics. He inherited many of the best and not-so -best recordings from a Florida station that closed down a few years back. In between his radio gig he listens and harvests the gems and he calls it “music worth saving.” In between our conversations I have had a lot of young-new artists who are sending me songs to review and I have begun to pass them on to Ron. Imagine a Christian online station playing the history of Christian Music, new songs, great programs with counseling and the daily audio bible, with reviews of affiliated advertising and advertising clients that would catalog great family and marriage products, raise funds for missions and even have digital publishing on one site. Fundraising is different these days and so are our listening, viewing and reading habits. As we travel lighter we need to travel smarter and for missionaries getting the word out in a more portable way.

Traditional means

Preaching, teaching and writing letters will always be part of the fundraising way. Telling people that I am about to plant my second Friendship Fellowship church reaching people with intellectual disabilities is one thing, inviting them to participate in the ministry is another. Raising support is also a part of that ministry and communicating that the support will allow us to purchase curriculum, hand-outs and train mentors; open more Friendship Fellowships to reach the 300,000 or so folks in Colorado with some kind of intellectual disability is on the agenda. So I will book my schedule and work on this. But launching a Christian Lifestyle online radio station with products that you can use, that are reviewed, ministry tools and study-relationship building and outreach publications for life groups in conjunction with raising funds for church planters and special populations in this digital world, is a good part of this mission that helps people minister to one another.
